A Site Everyone Can Use
We want everyone to be able to use directlegal.com, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Published by the World Wide Web Consortium, these guidelines are the most widely used standard for accessible websites.
What We Have Done
- Structure. Pages are built with clear headings, page regions, and a “Skip to main content” link, so screen reader and keyboard users can move through them quickly.
- Keyboard. Menus, rate lookups, forms, and other tools work with a keyboard, and the item you are on is outlined so you can see where you are.
- Images. Photos and graphics that carry information have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Color and text. Text and controls meet the guidelines’ color contrast minimums, and text can be enlarged.
- Zoom and small screens. Pages fit a phone screen and can be zoomed to 400% without scrolling sideways. Wide price tables scroll within their own box.
- Forms and tools. Every form field has a label. When you look up a rate, the result is announced to screen readers.
- Nothing hidden. Questions and answers and other content are shown on the page, not hidden behind buttons.
- PDF guides. Our e-filing, writ levy, and e-recording ordering guides and our levy checklists are tagged PDFs, so screen readers can follow their headings, lists, tables, and links and read a description of each screenshot.
- Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations.
How We Check
We test every page with automated accessibility checks at desktop and phone sizes, and we go through our menus, forms, and rate lookups with a keyboard. We do this when we make significant changes to the site and at least once a year. The site was last reviewed on October 25, 2026.
Where We Still Have Work to Do
- Other PDF documents. Some of our other PDFs are not yet fully readable by screen readers. If you need one in another format, contact us and we will provide the information another way.
- Other websites. Our client portal and online ordering run on a platform provided by another company, and many links go to court and government websites. We don’t control those sites. If you have trouble with any of them, call us and we will take your order or answer your question by phone or email.
- Videos and maps. Our videos play on YouTube and our maps come from Google. Every address on the site is also shown as text, and if you need a transcript of a video, let us know.
