Most firms keep their pleadings in a practice management or document management system. Instead of downloading files and uploading them again, the Direct Legal Support portal lets you pick them from Clio or NetDocuments while you place an order, and it saves the court's returned documents back to the same client and matter. Questions? Email support@directlegal.com or call (800) 675-5376.
Clio and NetDocuments
Both connections are built into the Direct Legal Support portal. There is nothing to install: you sign in to Clio or NetDocuments the first time you use it on an order.
Clio Available
Practice management. On the Documents tab of an e-filing order, choose Clio Manage and pick documents from the client and matter. When the court returns your filing, the documents are saved in Clio under the same client and matter, and the order’s charges are added to the matter as expenses. Our step-by-step guide, Using Clio with Direct Legal Support (PDF), walks through every screen.
NetDocuments Available
Document management. On the Documents tab of an e-filing order, choose NetDocuments and pick documents from the client and matter. Word and Rich Text files are converted to PDF before they go to the court. When the court returns your filing, the documents are saved to the same client and matter. Our step-by-step guide, Using NetDocuments with Direct Legal Support (PDF), walks through every screen.

What You Need
Before you start, check that you have:
- A Direct Legal Support account. Litigation Portal accounts are free and take a few minutes to set up.
- A Clio or NetDocuments account. Sign in with its own email and password. They don’t need to match your Direct Legal login.
- Your documents in the right place. Save the documents under the right client and matter, so you can find them from the order.
- Text-searchable PDFs. Courts want text-searchable documents, and a password-protected or fillable PDF causes an error.
How long Clio or NetDocuments stays connected depends mostly on that system. If you order again soon, you probably won’t need to sign in again. After a longer break, it may ask you to sign in and allow the connection again.
ECFX Court Notice Automation
ECFX is a court notice service for law firms and legal departments. It captures the electronic court filing notices that courts email to a firm, matches each notice to the right matter, and saves the court’s documents to the firm’s document management system. Our portal partners with ECFX for the automatic processing of e-filing notices.
If your firm uses ECFX, call us at (800) 675-5376 or email support@directlegal.com and we’ll walk you through how it works with your e-filing orders.
Litify, Filevine, and SmartAdvocate
We’re adding connections for Litify, Filevine, and SmartAdvocate, three case management systems used by many litigation firms.
